Bubble Bobble Games
Here's a list of all the Bubble Bobble games I've played.
I'll also mention whether I've completed the games and to what extent depending on the game.
Bubble Bobble Thoughts
There's a special place in my heart for this game; it was the game where my sister and I found some common ground (we were NOT close when we were younger, it sucked).
I love how vibrant this game looks (I know this is a thing for NES games but Bubble Bobble did it well). Had a lot of fun playing this game, seeing how far my sister and I would get, and then having a book to keep track of the codes to continue playing where we died (I remember our mom randomly dropping a code on us that tranported us to like stage 80 I think).
I liked how each stage had a theme to them; I remember liking a heart-shaped stage and a stage that said popcorn and had a platform shaped like a pan and the enemies in the pan would fly out like popcorn on a stove, it was just endearing!
Bubble Bobble Part 2 (NES) Thoughts
Played this with my sister and thought is was just beautiful; I really liked how there were worlds in this game and they all had pretty backgrounds. I didn't beat it with my sister though, the farthest we got together was the waterfall world; she eventually went on to beat the game solo.
I really liked how in the first world as you progressed through the stages, the sky changed to a sunset pallette; when I first saw this as a kid my mind was blown. Pity this didn't carry over for other stages but they were still cool in their own regards.
I loved the music of this game too, it just feels so nostalgic! If I had to choose a fav it would be the round 2 theme (town stage). That volleyball minigame was hell though; every other minigame after it was fine though (I remember my sister getting so mad at the opponent Barcelon).
Bubble Bobble Part 2 (GB) Thoughts
I did not get very far at all in this game, my sister was the one who beat it though. I remember really liking the music though; the final boss song goes very hard!
What I do remember playing from this game is seeing a Pikachu-looking creature in one of the earlier stages and being freaked out by it as a kid; I must've played this before Part 2 NES because I was used to enemies being defeated with a single bubble, whereas Pikachu-clone took multiple. I never played it again after that encounter (I was a skittish kid).
Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble 4 Thoughts
Another game that has a very special place in my heart; while I played against my sister, it was the first game where I was able to beat her (when you're a kid and your siblings constantly have a leg up on you from being better at/understanding games, when you finally find a game you can beat them at, victory feels SO sweet!)!
My sister would play as Bub and Monsta (when we unlocked them) where I would play as Bob, Develon, Woolen, and Packy (once we unlocked them). A lot of times since we played as the same characters, our matches would often last for more than 30 minutes to hours (the music would end and start looping again); it happened to the point where one of us would ask of we wanted to stop and quit the game).
An interesting note about this game, we had it on the Dreamcast but we didn't have a memory card, so everytime we played we'd have to play Vs. Mode and Story Mode to re-unlock the characters we wanted (wasn't too bad though, just meant we got to play the game more).
Another note about this game is that for the longest time, up until late highschool (I think), I didn't understand how the combos worked in this game; all I knew is that if you knocked down a lot of bubbles pretty effects happened on the screen and it helped you win.
The pixel art in this game is gorgeous too; I remember my sister and I playing as each character to see their combo, winning, and losing animations. I love the music of this game too. I often like to replay this game with my sister for fun; just has good replayability like Super Monkey Ball 2 and Kirby Air Ride.
Super Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble Thoughts
Played this with my sister. We didn't play this game to the extent we did Bust-A-Move 4. I really like the artstyle of this game though; feels very early-2000s.
I played as Pinky while my sister played as Mr. @. It was kinda weird that you didn't play as Bub or Bob in this game, still had fun though.
